Collection and Use of Client Information
The collection of information online is designed to protect access to your accounts and to assist the bank in providing you with the products and services that are of value to you. All information collected and stored by the bank is used for specific business purposes. Specifically, it is used to protect and maintain your accounts and transactions, to comply with state and federal banking regulations,and to help the bank better understand your financial needs in order to design or improve our products and services.
This information is gathered from a variety of sources. Personal and confidential information is collected when you open an account or apply for credit. We also may obtain reports from credit bureaus or other creditors for evaluating your initial application during the course of subsequent periodic review of your banking relationship with us.
For example, when you use Internet banking to apply for one of our products or services, or sign up for on online service, such as bill payment, we will request information, such as your e-mail address or your account number. This information allows you to perform certain tasks (e.g., correspond with us or review your accounts) and it allows us to provide the information you requested. In these cases, we collect only the information necessary to interact with you. We are committed to protecting the confidentiality of your information and online transactions. We use the highest industry standards for online security to secure your online sessions. This process safeguards your banking sessions from intruders. Client information is protected from unauthorized access to the bank by a password chosen by the client. Thus, client information is only accessible to those who know the client's user identification and password. User identification and passwords provide audit trails to further safeguard the privacy of client information.
Client information is protected from being altered while in transmission to the bank by encryption technology known as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). SSL manipulates the data into a format unreadable to humans as it leaves the clients workstation. Furthermore, the data in transit is split up into packets that travel separately and are not reorganized until they filter through the bank's router. If the encryption code is broken at an unauthorized computer, that computer will only receive incomplete random packets, which would be out of context with the whole data.
